Mel Wins South Australian Family Photographer of the Year for 2010
On Wednesday 10th November 2010 Mel was announced as the winner of the Family category at this years South Australian Professional Photography Awards. It was the first year this category was included in the awards and all image must be created for a client.
Mel’s prints earned 2 Silver with a Distinction, and 5 silver awards and was just so happy with the results

Mel Wins International Childrens Portrait Award
Mel Neumann, has been awarded first place and received special honours in the 2010 Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) 1st Half International Photography Competition.
Following a string of awards at the 2009 and 2010 Australian Professional Photography Awards, and twenty years since she started competing internationally, Melissa submitted four entries to the WPPI, receiving a first place, and an accolade of excellence in two categories.
This year’s international competition, judged in California last month, consisted of 17 photographic categories and 2511 submissions from a field of professional photographers worldwide.
Melissa describes the inspiration behind her photos as being very personal.
The inspiration behind Melissa’s winning entry, This is My Space and Here I Can Fly, in the Children’s category, came from “the love her son has for his space. It’s his and it’s where he is happiest. The shot was designed to show just that.”
The photo titled Joan at 80 received an accolade of excellence in the individual category. Melissa describes the photo of her great aunt who is in her 80s as “one whom has had a very full and interesting life. I wanted to show the cheeky sparkle still in the eyes and how her home is her world.”
Revelling in her success with receiving such international accolades, Melissa says “it’s all about staying current and challenging one’s own work. I know I am a good photographer but entering into this type of competition makes me strive for something just a little more interesting, a little more unique, and an image that will hopefully hit home with others.”
The WPPI Competition recognises outstanding photographers, with awards presented each year at the largest trade show, educational platform and convention in the United States for professional photographers.

On Wednesday 4th November Mel was announced as the winner of the portrait category at this years South Australian Professional Photography Awards. The portrait category this year was a very tough category to win with very strong competition.
Mel’s prints earned a Gold with Distinction, a Silver with a Distinction, and 3 silver awards and was just so happy with the results
