Why are professional portraits so important.
A child growing up is all about milestones. All too quickly, they grow and change. Our babies become children and are off to school in the blink of an eye. The first few weeks of life can be so difficult while the family adjusts to the new addition, the first smiles, the first teeth, when they learn to sit up on their own, walk on their own, and then they start to run! The first 5 years have many milestones as they develop from baby, to toddler, to child, to kindy kid, to school student. We often have professional photographs taken sometime during this time, or at least we mean to.
Then they start school and go into a new era of milestones, they loose teeth, they grow like little weeds, and they start to assert their own character. We spend so much time and money on the dance lessons, music lessons, sports activities, and other extra curricular activities, but do we ever capture this time in their life in images.
Then they leave primary school, and become teenagers, and let's not start to even understand what happens when they get to that stage. But before we know it they are graduating year 12, growing into adults and moving out of our house, coming home to use the washing machine, the internet and eat occasionally.
Our kids are on loan to us. We are privileged to have them. We are lucky to enjoy healthy, happy, active, annoying, frustrating, cute, crazy kids. Family life is so busy that sometimes we don't think about professional photography and don't value it as much as we value other stuff.
But we do value our photographs. Just look at when natural disasters take everything from us, the first thing anyone says is that the biggest lose is there photos. How fantastic is it that we can still have images of our parents, grand parents, and great grandparents, as both adults and children. Some of the most valued family treasures are the family photo albums.
With the digital age photography seems to have become undervalued in the busy lifestyle of today's family. Everything is electronic, disposable and fast. In the times of our grandparents it was normal to have the professional family photograph taken. In fact it was expected. Millions of professional photographs were mailed around the world. The wedding photographer is still seen as an important part of any wedding day capturing the beginning of a new branch of the family tree. Really, family portraits are even more important today then ever. So many photos are taken on digital camera's but never printed, then the computer crashes, and we loose all our photos. My biggest concern about the digital age of photography is that the family snapshot will be lost for a generation. At least if we have professional photos done we know we will have them for ever. Something that our grand children will see and enjoy.
My favourite moments are when I have clients say that my work has made someone cry, not that I like to cause upset to others, but the fact that the emotions captured in my images have touched the emotions of others. That is when I know I have done my job well.
My images are about who the child, or family are today, capturing the emotion, joy, beauty and whimsy of children by simply encouraging them to be themselves. I also encourages families to snap away as much as they can and capture as many images as they can of their kids growing up. But i also encourages them to print these photos, or back there images up somehow so they are not lost. Coffee table books are a great way to get a whole year of photos in a format that you can show off. Give me if call if you would like some help with that. There are lots of options.

There is a special 12 months baby package where your baby is photographed before its born, at 1-2 weeks, 4 months, when they can sit up, and on their 1st Birthday. This special package also can be purchased as a gift voucher. The gift voucher is only $75 and includes all 5 photoshoots and $150 credit towards your photographs.
Family photo sessions and single child sessions are the most usual of my photoshoots. These sessions can be done on location or in studio style (your place or mine), depending on type of photographs wanted, and sometimes its all about the weather. A pre shoot chat is done before the shoot to individualise the session for you. Portraiture is a very personal thing so its important for me to get to know more about your family before we go out for the photo shoot.
If you're a bit tight for cash but still want to get photos of the kids done you could always hold a "It's a Snap" party. You get great photo's for a reduced rate by bringing together a group of kids to have photographed. Again this can be done at your place or in my home studio. I set aside a day each month for families that want this service but done want the hassle of organising a party - so you get the service without the mess.
