Episode 1
There are 15 minutes videos that accompany these notes. They explain step by step how to learn the content of the notes. Please subscribe to the video podcast episodes using www.melneumann.com/studentzone/cdi.xml.
This episode goes over the basic terminology you will need to know before you can start to learn. It covers the basics of image editing using Microsoft's Picture Manager.

Tasks to do after watching episode 1.
- Experiment with digital image editing software. If you do not have Picture Manager see what other software you do have and play with it. Digital cameras usually come with digital editing software. If you do not have any on your computer go to www.download.com and find some freeware digital editing software to try out.
- If you did not understand all of the terminolgy search the internet and see what you can find.
Episode 2
This episode goes over the basic terminology you will need to know about digital cameras. It covers what to look for in a digital camera and it covers the basics of image editing using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.

Tasks to do after watching Episode 2.
- Read the section of the notes about digital cameras. The notes are more detailed and will help you to understand further what you need in a digital camera. The notes compare the specifications of a low, mid and high end camera and discuss in more details what the specifications are all about.
- Find the manual for your digital camera and read it. If you cant find it download it from the cameras web site.
- Have a look at your digital camera and find out what features it has. Pay particular attention to the different shooting modes that it has. Get away from this computer and try out some of the features of your camera. Become familiar with using it. you will need to if you want to successfully complete the assignments.
- If you do not have Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 you can download a 30 day trial version from www.adobe.com. If your studying there are also educational versions of the software at a greatly reduced prices so ask your local software dealer about education versions. Educational versions can not be used for commercial purposes but are fully operational versions of the software.
- Watch the OVERVIEW movie that comes with the download to further understand how to use Photoshop Elements.
Episode 3
This episode goes over more of the basics of image editing using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. This episode starts to introduce some of the fun aspects of photoshop elements and encourages you to play with the software to learn it further.

- If you have not yet done so Download the trial version of Adobe Photoshop Elements from www.adobe.com web site. If you wish to purchase the software ask about an educational version from your local software supplier or contact regency tafe bookshop.
- Experiment as much as possable with filters in photoshop. Familiarise yourself with the photoshop environment.
